I knew PAVA in 1988 when I was in second grade (elementary school). In the community every one of us were excited because we have a new school. Before that, we had to walk a long way to the nearby village’s school. That was the main reason that so many kids didn’t had the chance to study.
Before PAVA support the new school’s construction, the old school was made of aluminum sheets and boards, we didn’t have desks. Instead we had tables and large benches made of wood’s rests. Thanks to PAVA’s support, I had the chance to study in a new brand school with better conditions. This was of great benefit for me, my family and the rest of the community.
In 2004, my family encouraged me to continue my studies in high school. Back then, I had to leave my community because there was not a High School in Panimachavac. I decided to become a teacher in order to help the development of my community.
When I get back to my community so many things had change. The people were happier and they have better opportunities of development. PAVA supported new projects and programs, included the Comuniteca (Community Library). I was so excited with this opportunity because that allowed us to have access to information. I was a frequent user of the library in my College years.
When I got my College degree, for a few months I was a teacher in the new high school of Panimachavac. For that, the books were essential resources. The Comuniteca became my best allied.
I believe that the major support that PAVA have given to our community was that they believe in people. With all their projects they promoted important changes for the development of Panimachavac. Nowadays with the new Comuniteca we have a learning and development center, with programs focused in babies, toddlers, elementary school children, high school students, teachers, mothers and local authorities
Today, I’m PAVA’s program Director and I realized that everything is possible if we make commitments. Is not enough to give just the necessary, because big things only happens if we do so much more. I can say that PAVA planted in me the seed of teaching, this is what I valued more, because I’m sure that education can transform in a positive way this country.
